Feeling Better By Eating Right

What we eat and how we feel have a close intimate relationship.

In its simplest form, food is fuel. Although our taste and texture preferences can vary greatly, we all depend on the energy we eat. Most people are aware that it is important that we consume a diverse variety of foods as we strive to maintain a state of physical well-being. However, the close connection between diet and our psychological well-being is less well understood. Just as the nutritional components of food strengthen the body, they also strengthen the mind. Some foods can impair cognitive function and drain our energy, while others increase our intellectual abilities and make us feel vigorous. What we eat and drink can have a major impact on our ability to focus, mental clarity, mood and stress levels.

Food allergies, which don't always manifest themselves in the ways we recognize them, can also play an important role in maintaining mental health. Therefore, for most of us, a simple change in diet can have a profoundly positive impact on our lives. Taking the time to figure out if anxiety, confused thinking, or unexplained tension is related to a food allergy or intolerance can help you manage your symptoms naturally. The benefits of a healthier, more personalized diet are often immediately noticeable. Sugar, saturated fat, wheat and dairy are often allergens and can stress the body. In people who are allergic, their consumption can create imbalances in the physical self that negatively affect the body's ability to nourish the brain. On the other hand, water, fiber, nuts, unprocessed seeds, raw fruits and vegetables, and plant-based proteins support physical and mental function by providing the nutrients we need without additional  substances we don't need.

A balanced and natural diet can relieve mood swings, panic attacks, anxiety and mild depression. Intellectual clarity and agility are increased when the mind is given the right nourishment. Even people blessed with the ability to consume almost any food can benefit from a healthier and simpler diet. Since the mental and physical beings are closely related, we must nourish each with the food that nourishes them.
